We had several teams still alive in the high school playoffs with softball now into the regional quarterfinals and baseball in the middle of the area round.
Two of those teams being Sweetwater and Lubbock Cooper. Yesterday the Pirates held on for a 7-6 win.
Early in game two the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead and Michael Lawrence helped keep it that way with a leaping grab in left in the top of the second.
The Pirates would get on the board in the third as Justin Johnson hit a grounder to short but the throw was off the mark so a run scored, tying the game, 2-2.
In the 4th inning, pitcher James Clift got that run back for the Mustangs with an RBI double into the gap in left center to move Sweetwater back on top by one.
Cooper rallied with one in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the eighth, however, to win the game 4-3 in extra innings. They advance to regional’s.
