It is finally here, football season has arrived on the South Plains and we got to kick it off tonight with an old Lubbock rivalry between Coronado and Monterey, the first game inside the beautiful Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park.

Kent Jackson's Coronado Mustangs took on coach Todd Pearson's Monterey Plainsmen, and the Mustangs not messing around, two plays after a Monterey fumble, Robert Lee cashed in on the touchdown and the first touchdown of the year makes it 7-0 Mustangs.

Later in the 1st, Coronado back at it, with Robert Lee again on the sweep, getting his 2nd rushing touchdown of the game, 15-0 Coronado.

Just before the end of the half Robert Lee busted through the line for another touchdown, 22-0 Coronado.

But in the second Monterey wouldn't go away, Vincint Johnson took one in for the score to make it 22-8.

Then coach Pearson went to the air as Camden Arnold found Jared Frankhouser in the endzone to cut the deficit to seven.

But the hole was too deep for Monterey as Coronado wins it 22-15.

Coach Jackson joined KLBK's Stacy Slayden after the game to talk about his teams thrilling win.
