At the start of every season, there's always one main goal in mind and that is to win a state championship.

The plans are in place and the preparations begin, but in each chapter of the story is an unknown and for the Coronado boy's basketball team, the unknowns are truly ones for the book.

Head Coach Randy Dean didn't know he would get 500 career wins this season. The players didn't know they would miss out on the District 2-5A title until a 4-point loss to Amarillo Tascosa dashed those hopes.

Though they knew they qualified for the postseason after that game, there was no guarantee they would make it further than any Coronado team has gone in school history.

They didn't know it would take a half-court miracle to propel them to a regional quarterfinal victory over No. 24 Keller.

The story of the 2013-14 Coronado Mustangs has been an illustrious one, but the unknowns have yet to cease.

On Friday, they will take on the 2nd ranked team in the state in the Desoto Eagles.
