For more than three decades the Shallowater Fillies have been developed in the same program led by the same man, Chuck Darden.
It doesn't take long to notice the deep respect for coach Darden and all that he's accomplished; creating his program around the same principles and schemes you'll still see among his teams today.
His current players almost didn't have a storied program to come up through, however, as Darden started his career in as a football coach.
But a state title, numerous postseason appearances and 800 career wins later, he's coaxed yet another Fillies team to at least a share of the District 2-3A Title and another playoff berth.
Only two teams stand in the way of Shallowater winning the district title outright. The girls will play Lubbock Cooper on the road Friday night. On Tuesday, the Fillies host Levelland. Both of those teams happen to be two squads that pushed the Shallowater into overtimes earlier this season.
