LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech junior high jumper JaCorian Duffield has been named the Big 12 Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office today.
The recognition comes after Duffield broke a 30-year-old school record in the high jump at the Texas Tech Open last week. The Schertz, Texas native won the competition, and broke the record, after clearing a bar at 2.23-meters (7-feet 3.75 inches) on his first attempt. The clearance came after clearing the first six bars of the competition also on first attempt, and propelled the 2013 outdoor All-American to No. 2 on the national indoor qualifying list after just his first meet of the season.
The previous school record of 2.22-meters (7’-3.50”) was set in 1984 by Roland Mitchell.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders are preparing for their second indoor meet of the season set for Saturday in College Station at the Texas A&M Triangular.
