LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech begins the first of two road contests on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. tip against Texas at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
The game will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network for the third consecutive season.
Tech (6-15, 0-10 Big 12) looks to bounce back from a close contest on Saturday at home against Kansas, falling 70-62.
The Lady Raiders have shown improvement with each game through Big 12 Conference play this season as players on the second-youngest roster in the Big 12 have begun to emerge as the secondary and third scorers head coach Candi Whitaker has been looking for to help leading scorer Amber Battle.
Battle is fourth in the Big 12 Conference in points per game with 18.3, and is averaging more per game through 21 games than any other Lady Raider in the last eight years. She has scored in double figures in 19 of 21 games and is averaging 20 points per game in her last six contests after collecting her fifth double-double of the season on Saturday with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshmen Minta Spears – the only other player to start all 21 games this season with Battle – and Marina Lizarazu chipped in with 13 and 11 for the Lady Raiders. Tech has had three players finish in double figures in two of the last three games and has shot better from behind the 3-point arc, leading to better starts vs. Iowa State and Kansas.
Tech is 9 of 21 from 3-point range in the first half of its last three games with Spears hitting six of those on just 10 attempts. She’s hit multiple 3-pointers in 11 games this season, including her last three.
Texas (14-7, 5-4) comes in after losing 87-73 at No. 7 Baylor on Saturday following two-straight wins over No. 18 West Virginia and Kansas.
The Longhorns are led Nneka Enemkpali, who is averaging nearly a double-double this season with 13.4 points and league-leading 9.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-1 junior has tallied seven double-doubles this season including a 15-point, 21-rebound performance in the win over the Mountaineers last week – the team’s second win over a ranked opponent.
