LUBBOCK, Texas (April 4, 2014) – A walk-off homerun by Kirstie Cochran in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Lubbock Christian a 6-5 win in game one versus Texas A&M International, and Ashton Bell pitched a one-hitter for a 2-0 victory against the Dustdevils to cap a sweep for the Lady Chaps on Friday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth in game one, Megan Sullivan earned a walk, Jessica Loiacano doubled to right center and Morgan Colburn hit an RBI single to put LCU on the board. A costly Dustdevil error allowed Katera Eltsosie to reach second base, moved Colburn to third and scored Loiacano to tie the game. A second mishap by TAMIU, this time a dropped fly ball, brought Colburn in for the first Lady Chap lead, and a Cochran double gave LCU two more scores to jump ahead 5-3.

TAMIU knotted the game at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Cochran stepped to the plate as the first batter for LCU and won the game with her blast down the left field line.

Eltsosie (17-4) earned the win with 10 hits, four walks and four strikeouts while Kyndall Reaves (5-8) took the loss with four hits, a pair of walks and a strikeout.

Reaves tallied the only Dustdevil hit in game two during the third inning on a single up the middle, but the Lady Chaps were able to strand two runners to keep the game scoreless.

A double by Bell to left center kicked off the bottom of the fourth for LCU, and Sullivan followed with a single to right field to push Bell to third. Loiacano grounded into a double play, but Bell’s speed allowed her to scoot in for a 1-0 Lady Chap lead.

Billings tallied her homer in the fifth to double LCU’s lead to 2-0, and the Lady Chaps took care of the final six Dustdevils outs in quick fashion to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Bell (2-0) recorded the win with the lone hit, a walk and three strikeouts, and Mariena Gallardo (6-10) suffered the loss with seven hits and a trio of strikeouts.

The Lady Chaps and Dustdevils play two games tomorrow beginning at 11, with the first contest counting as a Heartland Conference game and the second being recorded as a non-conference contest.
