Coach Kingsbury's first season at Texas Tech was a roller coaster ride that saw them climb as high as No. 10 in the country, but saw them free fall through October and November, until a huge win over 14th ranked Arizona State vaulted them into the offseason.

Unlike 2013, Tech returns in 2014 with an unquestioned starting quarterback in Davis Webb who has put on about 20 pounds since winning Holiday Bowl MVP. Webb is one of just nine returning starters for the Tech offense, which despite the loss of 2nd round pick Jace Amaro, has a chance to be lethal in its second season under Coach Kingsbury.

The defense is a little less certain with most of the front seven graduating. Four players return off a defense that struggled down the stretch giving up 294 rushing yards per game during the final five regular season games.

The Red Raiders are hoping they addressed the defensive line adequately. By picking up big bodies like Rika Levi on the recruiting trail, the defense is the biggest x-factor for this team as they enter the 2014 season.

The Red Raiders boast one of the better home schedules in school history with six home games featuring Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. That favorable schedule along with an experienced Davis Webb running the offense has the Red Raiders set up, so that an upset or two and a few bounces go their way and it could be a special season on the South Plains.
