The Lubbock High Westerners won their fifth straight series opener with a 7-4 win over the Monterey Plainsmen at Moegle Field.
The Westerners burst out of the gate cashing in three runs in the first off of Monterey starter Blake Walden, and tacked on a 4th run in the 2nd. But Walden would settle in and keep the Westerners at bay, keeping his team in the game. In the 5th the Plainsmen finally broke through against starter Daniel James for four runs to cut the deficit to 5-4. But in the 7th the Westerners would tack on two more runs and that would be plenty as they take game one 7-4 and have now won every district opener this season.
