Nigel Bethel II Dismissed for Punching Lady RaiderAmber Battle

Bad news came out of Texas Tech as one of the football programs highly regarded recruits dashed his dreams of playing in front of Red Raider nation.

Cornerback Nigel Bethel II was released by the team after punching Lady Raider basketball player, Amber Battle, during a pick up game.

Texas Tech released this official statement today:

"Nigel Bethel II, a Texas Tech football student-athlete, has been dismissed from the team due to his role in an incident at the Texas Tech student recreation center on Saturday, June 28. Texas Tech athletics has a zero tolerance policy on this type of behavior."

Battle will be re-evaluated on Monday and is expected to have surgery later this week.

The senior guard led the team scoring, rebounds and assists and was named to the second team All-Big 12.

Coach Candi Whitaker declined to comment on the situation.

Bethel was a 4-star recruit out of Booker T. Washington High School in Miami who flipped his commitment from the Hurricanes to Texas Tech. He is considered by some as the top recruit of the 2014 class.
