The Red Raiders had their 4-game winning streak snapped with an 8-3 loss to Texas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City.
Corey Taylor was hit hard early and lasted just 1 and 2/3rds innings allowing three runs before being lifted for Johnny Drozd, who allowed two inherited runners to score before getting out of the inning down 5-0.
Texas Tech got one back in the 5th on a Bryant Burleson double that scored Stephen Smith to make it 5-1.
Texas would tack on two more in the 4th and one more in the 6th to take the 8-1 lead, until Adam Kirsch tripled home two runs to cut the deficit to 8-3, but that is as close as they would get, falling by a final of 8-3. Texas Tech was able to get four shutout innings from Johnathon Tripp out of the bullpen, allowing them to save some arms as they attempt to climb out of the losers bracket. They will take on Oklahoma on Thursday morning at 12:30pm from Bricktown Ballpark, and will have to battle their way out of the losers bracket.
