No. 6 Monterey Wins Close One with No. 12 Amarillo, 7-6

Up the road in Plainview, Monterey hosted 12th ranked Amarillo High. 

In the first inning, Casey Hoelzer took Hunter Spaeth deep to left center for his first homer of the season. Sandies took an early 1-0 lead.

Later in the fifth, Amarillo led up 5-3 but the Plainsmen stormed back. Two runners on for Blake Walden and he would drive one into right center plating two runs and Walden slid in for a triple to tie the game at 5-5. 

Next batter, Walden would score on a sac fly by Branson Hall to take their first lead of the game.

Monterey won 7-6. Game two of this series back at Wayland tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.
