Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes has worked his way to Davis Webb’s backup in fall training camp.

Red Raider fans have experienced their fair share of quarterback changes over the past year as Michael Brewer, Baker Mayfield, and Webb all played in games last year. But when Mayfield and Brewer bolted, it left Webb as the only scholarship pass thrower.

Webb has relished that opportunity, but this fall, Whitehouse standout Patrick Mahomes has come in and taken over the back up role behind Webb. He was impressive in the scrimmage last weekend throwing for five touchdowns, putting on a show for the coaches and gaining confidence from his teammates in the process.

"Think he threw five touchdowns, scrambled around," Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury said, "He doesn't really know the plays all the way but his natural ability can get him out of some plays and he did a good job of extending plays and leading the offense on drives."

"Yea, (Patrick) really opened some eyes of some people," quarterback Davis Webb said. "Everyone has been wondering if we have a backup going into the scrimmage and I think Pat made everyone realize we have a quality backup and if I go down we still have a chance to win some games. He did great, I was really proud of him and we've both worked hard to get him where he is right now and I know Coach Kingsbury is really impressed with him."
