Sonny Cumbie will be on the opposing sideline this year when the Red Raiders invade Fort Worth on October 25th.
Cumbie is set to begin his first season as the Co-Offensive coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the TCU Horned Frogs.
The Synder native and former Red Raider Quarterback had been on staff since 2009 but will now be assisting the Frogs as they try to improve the 72nd ranked passing offense from a year ago.
Cumbie’s new boss, Gary Patterson knows how much of an asset Cumbie is to his team.
“We've only been through 15 practices, but I know that he is highly respected and the kids love him,” Patterson said. The key is to get a guy you can play for, and he'll teach them and grow them up, and still be hard on them to move through the growing pains of being a young quarterback and the rest of it. That's going to be his challenge to do that and Coach Meacham being the signal caller and be able to work with them and make it all happen. He was the one who chose Sonny, he's the one that said, you know, this is the guy, if I don't coach quarterbacks here's the guy I would like to have, we were fortunate we were able to go out and get him.”
