LUBBOCK, TX -- Texas Tech on Monday released the police report in which TTU football recruit Nigel Bethel II was accused of hitting Lady Raider basketball player Amber Battle.

The cover sheet of the police report referred to an incident Saturday at 6:00 pm as an “aggravated assault.” The narrative of the police report was three sentences. It said:

“On the dates and times listed on the cover sheet of this report, aggravated assault occurred at Texas Tech University – Student Recreation Center. A Texas Tech University student struck another student, causing serious bodily injury. The suspect was released pending the filing of charges with the Lubbock County District Attorney’s office.”

In simple terms, Bethel was not arrested Saturday, but he might be arrested at a later date. Because Bethel was a suspect at the time of the report (not an arrestee or a defendant) his name is not listed. Battle’s name is listed as the victim.

Texas Tech issued a written statement on Sunday that said:

“Nigel Bethel II, a Texas Tech football student-athlete, has been dismissed from the team due to his role in an incident at the Texas Tech Student Recreation Center on Saturday, June 28. Texas Tech Athletics has a zero tolerance policy on this type of behavior.”
