Red Raiders Move Into Top 10 in National Rankings
LUBBOCK, Texas (Texas Tech Press Release) – Texas Tech, backed by its victory at then-No. 11 Notre Dame last Friday, moved into the top 10 of all three major collegiate soccer polls Tuesday for the first time in program history.
The Red Raiders (3-0), who used two quick second-half goals to score a road victory against the Fighting Irish, jumped to No. 10 in both the NSCAA/Continental Tire and Top Drawer Soccer polls and No. 8 in the Soccer America rankings.
This is the highest Tech has ever appeared in the NSCAA poll, breaking the previous mark of 11th that the Red Raiders received on Nov. 5 last year heading into the Big 12 Championship. The Red Raiders have now been ranked in the NSCAA poll for a school record 13-consecutive weeks dating back to the 2013 season, their longest streak in any of the three polls.
Tech is the highest-ranked program of three Big 12 schools in the NSCAA top-25, topping No. 20 Oklahoma and No. 21 West Virginia. Fellow conference counterparts Kansas, Baylor and Texas are all receiving votes in the poll as well.
The Red Raiders will return to the John Walker Soccer Complex this weekend, hosting Sam Houston State in a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday evening before facing Portland State at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
