After Texas Tech walked off against Columbia in the opening round of the Coral Gables Regional, they won a date with the host team, Miami.

They got things going early after two bunt singles by Ryan Long and Devon Conley in the second inning. That setup shortstop Tim Proudfoot who would drive in Long to score the first run of the game. So, with Proudfoot and Conley at the corners, Miami’s ace, Chris Diaz, who leads the team in wild pitches, delivered another one that allowed Conley to score, giving Tech a 2-0 lead.

Diaz settled in retiring 10 straight batters but the freshman for the Red Raiders, Dylan Dusek, was also dealing. He tossed eight scoreless innings allowing only four hits.

So while his pitching kept the Hurricanes off the board, the Red Raiders added some insurance.

Riding a 19-game hitting streak, sophomore Tyler Neslony, sacrificed that in the 8th inning, laying down a bunt to get Stephen Smith and Bryant Burleson into scoring position. That set up Gutierrez who dropped one into left field giving enough room for Smith to come home from third.

Texas Tech defeated the ‘Canes, 3-0, to advance to the Regional Final, where they will play the winner of Bethune-Cookman and Miami at 6 p.m. CT.
