LUBBOCK, Texas (Texas Tech Press Release) – The 2014-15 Texas Tech women’s golf season begins Sept. 8 in Lawrence, Kan., as announced by Texas Tech athletics on Friday.
Tech will play a total of 10 tournaments before ending the regular season schedule April 26 in San Antonio at The Dominion Country Club for the Big 12 Championship.
“I think this is a great schedule for our girls to help set them up for a postseason run,” said head coach JoJo Robertson, who enters her sixth season in West Texas. “Each tournament gives us a chance to play on some of the toughest courses against the best competition.”
The season begins with stops in Kansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma and San Antonio in the fall. The Lady Raiders will get a chance to play Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio in October as an early preview for the NCAA Central Regional hosted by UTSA in May.
The spring schedule will begin with a trip out west in late February to the UC Irvine Invitational in California and then a return out west in March for the Wildcat Invitational in March. Tech will then head back to South Carolina to defend their 2014 title at the Briar’s Creek Invitational before making their final stops in Florida and Dallas prior to the conference tournament.
Tech returns four of its starting five golfers from last season including NCAA Regional qualifier and team low-scorer, Kimmy Hill, as well as transfers Mariah Montoya and Lauren Mason. A talented trio of freshmen in Gabby Barker, Kamryn Cummings and Madeline Davis along with junior transfers Sarah Brown and Gennai Goodwin give Robertson one of her deepest rosters in her tenure.
“This is a fantastic group of skilled veterans coming back and mixing in a new group of talented freshmen and transfers only makes us a better team altogether,” Robertson said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing our Lady Raiders compete at the highest level this season and chase down a Big 12 Championship.”
