In 2013 the Red Raider Football team reeled off six straight wins to start the season but faced their first real road challenge of the season heading into hostile Milan-Puskar Stadium in West Virginia.
Coming off his first start where he threw for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns, Davis Webb was looking to take his show on the road and started the game sharp, with a 10 yard touchdown pass to Jace Amaro within the first 5 minutes.
But after a couple of Ryan Bustin field goals made it 13-3, the 16th ranked Red Raiders looked like they might cruise right on through the West Virginia hills, but it was a Davis Webb Mistake deep in West Virgnia territory that gave the Mountaineers new life…
From that fumble West Virginia outscored Tech 24-3 and held an 11 point lead with under 5 minutes to play in the 3rd.
But then the light came on for Webb and the Red Raiders Jace Amaro put the Red Raiders on his back at times and helped the Red Raiders take back the lead at 30-27.
Then with 4 and a half minutes to play the Red Raiders used a 10 play 69 yard drive to chew most of the remaining clock, and had a chance to run it down further when Coach Kingsbury went for the jugular and coined this teams motto for the rest of the season…
On the day Davis Webb threw for 462 yards and 2 touchdowns, the fifth most passing yards in a conference road game in school history that would vault the Red Raiders into the top-10 in the country with an undefeated 7-0 record.
#4 on your top-10 games of 2013 a 37-27 win against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
