LUBBOCK, Texas (Texas tech Press Release) — Texas Tech men’s golf head coach Greg Sands announced Friday the hiring of Jeremy Alcorn to fill the assistant coach position on his staff.
Alcorn fills the spot vacated by Jeff Jenkins, who left to take the head men’s golf coaching position at Louisiana Tech in June after four seasons with the Red Raiders.
He comes to the South Plains after spending time playing on the Adams Golf Pro Tour and as a caddy on the PGA Tour.
“Jeremy is a fantastic person and a great golfer,” Sands said. “He’s the type of person that can truly have an impact on your team in multiple ways because of his experience and knowledge of the game. Having a guy that has already done so much and can talk to our players about what it takes to be an All-American is a huge advantage for us. We’re glad he is ready to call Texas Tech his new home.”
Alcorn played four years at Baylor from 2003-07. He won four tournaments including three his sophomore year in 2004-05 to tie a Baylor school record for individual victories in a season. His 71.76 stroke average led the Bears that season and was third in the Big 12 Conference to help him earn All-Big 12 first team honors and a PING All-America honorable mention selection.
He finished his collegiate career with 11 top-5 finishes (third-best at Baylor), 17 top-10 finishes (fourth-best), and 133 career rounds played (fourth-best).
Alcorn won his first professional tournament on the Adams Tour in 2009 at the Jamie Hilton Hillcrest Children’s Golf Classic at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco – a familiar course for the Baylor grad. He won the tournament on the first playoff hole to finish at 9-under par (70-70-68-71—279).
The last few years he’s found himself on the bag as a caddie on the PGA Tour. Most recently, Alcorn has spent time caddying for Brice Garnett.
