LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior forward Jaye Crockett capped one of the most prolific careers in Texas Tech history with selection to the All-Big 12 Conference Third Team, as selected by league coaches and announced on Sunday.
It was also announced on Sunday that Crockett was named to the CollegeSportsMadness.com All-Big 12 Fourth Team.
The honor mark the first time since 2008 that a Red Raider had landed on any team other than honorable mention on the coaches’ All-Big 12 team. That season, Martin Zeno landed second team honors.
Last season, Crockett averaged 11.9 points and 6.5 rebounds en route to honorable mention All-Big 12 honors, as well as being named Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year by College Hoops Daily.
He is the first multiple All-Big 12 honoree since John Roberson was named honorable mention All-Big 12 following the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
Crockett improved his play this season, averaging 13.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. He ranks 14th in the league in scoring, 13th in rebounding and second in field goal percentage (52.1 percent).
Crockett recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds against Texas on Saturday, giving him his 18th career double-double. Crockett now has 1,212 points, 670 rebounds, 111 assists, 106 steals and 65 blocks. Crockett is the fifth player in school history to record 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 100 assists and 100 steals in a season. He joins Will Flemons (1990-93), Jason Sasser (1993-96), Andre Emmett (2001-04) and Zeno (2005-08).
With his steal against Texas, Jaye Crockett now has 106career steals at Texas Tech. He is now 15th on the career steals list, passing Bryant Moore (1991-92, 105 steals).
Crockett now has 426 points for the season. It is the most points in a season for a Red Raider since Mike Singletary netted 525 points during the 2009-10 season. Crockett has steadily improved each season since becoming a Red Raider – freshman (153 points), sophomore (265 points), junior (368 points) and senior (426 points).
Oklahoma State (20-11) will take on Texas Tech (14-17) on Wednesday, March 12, in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
