No. 32 Texas Tech Blanks West Virginia, 7-0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 32 Texas Tech won al nine matches on Friday, as the Lady Raiders cruised past West Virginia, 7-0, on Friday at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
“I was really impressed with West Virginia,” said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. “They competed hard and were all over us early in singles. I think these young ladies did a great job of weathering the storm and capitalizing when we had our chances.”
Tech started the match with a strong doubles showing. It started with Beatriz Machado Santos and Lynn Kiro rolling past Irinka Toidze and Vivian Tsui, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles. No. 38 Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo added an 8-3 win at No. 1 over Kaja Mrgole and Oana Manole. Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde closed out doubles with another 8-3 win over Hailey Barrett and Ikttesh Chahal at No. 2.
No. 118 Kiro added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Manole to give the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead. Samantha Czarniak Rego followed suit with a straight-set 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Vivian Tsui. Adams added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 over Toidze to give Texas Tech a 4-0 lead with three matches remaining.
West Virginia extended the day by taking Texas Tech to a third set at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4.
Sanders bested Chahal, 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, followed by Teltumbde, who dropped Mrgole, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Kilgo closed out the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over Barrett at No. 1.
Texas Tech returns to action on Saturday in Ames, Iowa, when the Lady Raiders take on Iowa State at noon.
