WALNUT, Calif. – Sophomore Lady Raider Le’Tristan Pledger helped Texas Tech close out the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays Saturday with a school record performance in the 100-meter hurdles inside Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Pledger, who took down both the 55-meter and 60-meter hurdle records during the 2014 indoor season, etched her name in the outdoor record book after crossing the finish line in 13.09 seconds to take down the previous record of 13.10 set by Katie Grimes last year.
"It feels really good," she said. "I'm just looking to progress each week and keep working hard and keep executing through my race. It was a great environment today, and I got to run against some great people so it was a good race."
Pledger finished ninth overall in the invitational elite section of the race and fourth among collegians.
The performance highlighted the third and final day of action for the No. 8 Red Raiders and No. 16 Lady Raiders at the annual Mt. SAC Relays.
Early in Saturday's action sophomore Lady Raider Hannah Carson picked up her fourth victory of the season in the javelin, winning the invitational elite section of the competition with a heave of 53.15-meters (174'-4") - matching her second-best throw of the season from the UTSA Invitational in March.
The throw was her third mark over 170-feet this season.
Fellow Lady Raider teammate Cierra White went on to post a season-best of 23.00 in the invitational elite section of the 200-meter dash. She finished sixth in the race and third among collegians.
Shujaa Benson finished 11th overall and fourth among collegians in the invitational elite men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.95. Benson, for the second time this season, competed alongside former Red Raider and 2014 IAAF World Indoor 60-meter Hurdle Champion Omo Osaghae who finished second in the race with a time of 13.41. The performance came after breaking the Cougar Stadium record in the event at the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday with a time of 13.49 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
In the men's invitational long jump, Red Raider junior Jerome Wilson finished seventh with a best leap of 7.24-meters (23'-9.00"). Meanwhile, JaCorian Duffield finished sixth in the invitational elite men's high jump clearing 2.18-meters (7'-1.75"). Bradley Adkins cleared 2.13-meters (6'-11.75") to finish ninth.
Kole Weldon finished ninth in the men's invitational elite section of the shot put with a best throw of 18.75-meters (61'-6.25").
The Lady Raider 4x400 relay team, comprised of Montenae Roye-Speight, Christen Rivers, Tiffany Tarver and Amoy Blake, closed the meet finishing fourth overall and second among collegiate teams with a time of 3:33.42. The squad won the event in 2013 with a time of 3:33.25.
Sophomore Nick Rivera competed in the 800-meter run at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State. He finished 34th with a time of 1:53.02. He competed in both the 800-meters and the 1,500-meters at Mt. SAC Friday.
Texas Tech will continue its road swing next week as the No. 8 Red Raiders and No. 16 Lady Raiders will disperse to both the prestigious Penn Relays and the WT Classic in Canyon.
