Pledger & White Take Gold On Day Two of NACAC Championships

KAMLOOPS, B.C. (Texas Tech Press Release) – Texas Tech’s Le’Tristan Pledger took gold in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, and Cierra White picked up her second title of the weekend as part of Team USA's 4 x 100 meter relay, on day two of the NACAC U-23 Championships, in Kamloops, B.C., on Saturday.
Pledger (13.04) edged out Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds by .02 seconds in a thrilling finish, making her the second Red Raider in as many days to take gold at the championships, after Cierra White’s win in the women’s 100 meter dash, on Friday.
“Le’Tristan ran one of her fastest times of the year today in a huge meet,” Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. “What a great performance this late in the year. I’m very proud of her.”
White was on the track again today for Team USA in the women’s 4 x 100 meter relay, in which the Americans took gold, with a time of 43.89. It's the second win in as many days for White.
In the women’s javelin, Red Raider Hannah Carson took second place, with a launch of 51.93m(170-4).
Texas Tech athletes will wrap up competition at the championships tomorrow. JaCorian Duffield will compete in the men’s high jump at 12:50 p.m., CT, White will race for her third gold medal of the weekend in the women’s 200 meters (noon CT) and Trevor Mackey will represent the Bahamas in the men’s 200 meters, at 12:15 p.m., CT.
