Texas Tech Finishes Sixth at Big 12
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Tech sophomore Kimmy Hill carded a 1-over 73 to lead Texas Tech to a sixth place finish in the final round of the Big 12 Championship at UT Golf Club.
Tech (295-306-300—901) beat out No. 15 Oklahoma State for the sixth spot behind Iowa State and Kansas, who tied for fourth. No. 7 Oklahoma (861) beat out Texas on the Longhorns’ home course thanks to a 10-under par 278 on Sunday to capture the Big 12 title.
Junior Stephanie Bertelsen finished up her stellar week with a perfect ending on the 410-yard, 18th hole by draining a 20-foot putt for birdie to cap off a 3-over 75 and 11th overall finish at 5-over par (70-76-75—221).
“I was really pleased with Stephanie and Hannah (Arnold),” head coach JoJo Robertson said. “Steph had her best week ever at Texas Tech and what a great time to do it. For her to make that last putt on the last hole was a good thing. She struggled a lot with her putter. She’s got an LPGA qualifier tomorrow so I think she’ll go into that feeling pretty good.”
Hannah Arnold, the lone senior in the group, was once again consistent from tee to green and scored her second consecutive 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 13th at 7-over par (75-74-74—223).
Hill knocked a fairway wood to around three feet on the 455-yard, par-5 5th and tapped in for eagle – one of only four eagles the whole weekend on that hole. She then bogeyed the next hole before stringing together 10 consecutive pars on her way to a 73 and tie for 24th at 10-over par.
“My irons were definitely a lot tighter today and I don’t think I missed one fairway so I was really pleased with that,” Hill said. “I think we knew what we needed to improve on coming into this week and we really wanted to do well for Hannah with her being the only senior this weekend.”
Junior Elin Arvidsson and redshirt freshman Victoria Uresti each shot 6-over 78s on Sunday, improving from their round two scores. Uresti improved each day throughout the weekend in her first Big 12 Championship appearance.
Tech will now wait to hear its name called on Monday night during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which will be carried on The Golf Channel live beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
