– The Red Raider track and field team will officially enter the NCAA West Preliminaries this week at No. 5 in the national rankings according to the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer polls released Tuesday.
The ranking marks the Red Raiders’ third appearance inside the Top-5 this season, and second-straight after winning the Big 12 Conference Championships at the Fuller Track and Field Complex. The No. 5 Red Raiders are the highest ranked Big 12 men’s team entering the NCAA West Preliminary meet – which serve as the first round of the NCAA Championships.
The Lady Raiders, meanwhile, slipped one spot to No. 16 – marking their sixth appearance inside the top-20 this season. The Lady Raiders recently finished third at the Big 12 Championships – their best showing at the conference meet since finishing runner-up in 2009.
Texas Tech will compete at the NCAA West Preliminaries beginning Thursday at the John McDonnell Track in Fayetteville, Ark.
