LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech University officials unveiled the completion of $1.2 million in facility upgrades to the Terry and Linda Fuller Track and Field Complex Wednesday as the program prepares to host the Big 12 Championships this weekend.
The project, which included renovations to two existing buildings and the addition of a 3,900 square-foot storage facility, was completed this week and adds a state-of-the-art team room, two locker rooms and an upgraded athletic training facility.
“This is a phenomenal addition to our already outstanding facility,” Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley -currently in his 15th season at Texas Tech - said. “We are grateful for the continued commitment by our administration and donors, and believe this facility will only enhance our program.”
Texas Tech track and field student-athletes will now enjoy the benefits of a 3,500 square foot team area and expanded locker room space, all of which opens up to the north edge of the Fuller Track. The team room features custom red and black carpet with an oversized Double-T graphic, four game-style tables, three study tables and an 80-inch high definition flat-panel TV.
Meanwhile, each locker room features 90 custom oak lockers and bathrooms with Texas Tech red and black colored tiles.
The project added 924 square feet to the original building.
The previous team building, located beneath the Fuller Track bleachers, has been converted to a fully functional athletic training area complete with five treatment tables, a taping station and custom Texas Tech Sports Medicine signage. The athletic training area provides ample space for Texas Tech student-athletes to receive medical treatment within walking distance of the Fuller Track.
Texas Tech also installed a 3,980 square foot storage area on the southeast corner of the Fuller Track and Field Complex. The area is fully powered and includes three 12-foot by 12-foot garage doors, concrete flooring and was completed with split faced brick siding.
Texas Tech hosts the Big 12 Track and Field Championships for the second time in program history this weekend. The men’s team enters the meet with a No. 6 national ranking. Full coverage of the meet, and entire postseason, can be found at TexasTech.com.
