Texas Tech's Matt Withrow & Matt Custred Named CCL All-Stars
LUBBOCK, Texas (Texas Tech Press Release) – A pair of Texas Tech sophomore right-handed pitchers were named to the California Collegiate League All-Star roster as Matt Withrow (Santa Barbara Foresters) and Matt Custred (Los Angeles Brewers) were among the 60 top prospects at the midway point in the season.
The 2014 CCL All-Star Game will be played at the MLB Urban Youth Academy on Wednesday, July 16 at 9 p.m. CT. The game will have a national television audience on FOX Sports West.
Withrow has pitched out of the bullpen this summer with a perfect 0.00 ERA in three outings with four innings pitched, eight strikeouts and three walks allowed.
Withrow and the Foresters lead the Central Division with a 20-4 league record and 25-6 overall mark.
In two seasons with the Red Raiders, Withrow owns an 8-6 record with a 5.80 ERA in 28 appearances and 20 starts with 94.2 innings pitched. He has tallied 94 strikeouts and has allowed 57 walks.
Custred ranks among league leaders with seven appearances with a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings pitched with 12 strikeouts and five walks.
Custred and the Brewers are currently in the first place in the South Division with an 11-4 league mark and 15-4 overall record with a current eight-game win streak.
Custred has made 11 career appearances with the Red Raiders, including one start as a freshman in 2013. He has a career 1-2 record with 15 innings pitched and 17 strikeouts.
