Down to class 2A, the Slaton Tigers broke their 7 year playoff drought this year and traveled up to Canyon on Thursday night to take on the Bushland Falcons.
The winner gets the winner of Clyde and Comfort.
In the 1st quarter it was a tough start for the Tigers, as Bushland’s big quarterback, Taylor Cornelius aired it out, and found Stephen Menke right in stride to take the 7-0 Falcons lead.
A little later, off a Tiger turnover, Cornelius found an opening and delivered a strike back of the end zone to Brian Gillette to make it 14-0.
In the 2nd quarter though, the Tigers came to life, when Bryce Whaley got out of trouble and decided to take off down the sideline huge yards deep into Falcon territory.
A few plays later, Whaley called his own number again and bounced it outside and he scampered in to the endzone to cut the lead 14-7. But Bushland would pull away and win it 49-22.
