One very special mother just received the birthday present of a lifetime, and it was completely free.
“Usually my wife’s birthday is a pretty big deal so I try to do something new,” Dan Konkel, 28, of Bridgewater, N. J., told GoodMorningAmerica.com.
So when he sat down about a month prior to the big day brainstorming ideas of how to up the ante from last year, the couple’s adorable 2-year-old daughter, Claire, immediately came to mind, and the result was pure magic.
“Hi Mommy!” little Claire announced in the heart melting video she and father, a professional photographer, recorded for her mom, Stacey. “I just wanted to say, ‘Happy Birthday.’”
The blonde, bright-eyed, pigtailed toddler continues to list the reasons why she loves her mommy so much, and each one is more inspiring than the first. “You’re beautiful,” Claire lists as number one. “You are amazing,” comes in at number two. As for number three, “You’re the best mommy ever.” She struggles a bit with number four, but it’s probably one of the most flattering to any mother’s ears: “You’re the best cook.”
Since Konkel gets to spend a lot of time with Claire while his wife is at work, he wanted to create a condensed video of Claire’s vast love for her mommy into something she could watch and enjoy whenever she wanted to.
“I sat her down in the living room and we had a conversation for about 40 minutes about Mommy and toys and food,” Konkel said of his little girl, who hand-picked her outfit for the “movie” they were making.
But the entire conversation wasn’t all upbeat, as the little girl suddenly got very deep on her unsuspecting dad.
“I started talking about when Mommy’s not here,” Konkel explained. “I said, ‘She works so hard, doesn’t she?’ She was like, ‘Mommy works so hard,’ almost on the verge of tears, and I was on the other side of the camera in the living room like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ It just poured out.”
Little Claire’s adorably heartfelt, personal message for her mother’s 28th birthday definitely takes the cake as the best gift ever, and it seems the entire Internet agrees, with one Reddit poster even commenting to other dads, “Gentleman: The bar has been raised.”
In order to surprise his wife, Konkel edited together the video, uploaded it to her iPad and hid it in her baby bag with a note that said, “Hey, watch me.”
