A Crosbyton woman pleaded guilty to murder charges related to the death of Leah Marie Aguirre, 2.
CROSBYTON, TX -- A Crosbyton woman pleaded guilty to murder charges related to the death of Leah Marie Aguirre, 2. Leah’s body was found in the home of her caretaker, Matilda Almaraz, 43, in January.
Almaraz initially told police that a man pretending to be a CPS worker had taken Leah. That led to an Amber Alert, searches and vigils. After the discovery of Leah’s body, Alamaraz was charged with Capital Murder. An autopsy showed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
Almaraz’ plea bargain is for the lesser charge of murder, which takes the death penalty out of consideration. Instead, Almaraz agreed to life in prison.
