Battle Carries Lady Raiders to Ugly Win

Amber Battle scores 17 points and grabs 15 rebounds in Texas Tech's 58-50 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech junior guard Amber Battle scored 17 points and had a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Raiders to a 58-50 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday at United Spirit Arena.

Battle notched her third double-double of the season and her career. The 5-foot-9 guard continues to lead the Big 12 Conference with 10.7 rebounds per game and is the only Big 12 player averaging a double-double this season with 17.1 points per game.

“I thought Amber made plays for her team and that’s why we won today,” Texas Tech head coach Candi Whitaker said. “She got her hands on some defensive plays and got to the rim and got boards for us.”

Tech (4-3) had to overcome 14 turnovers while hitting just 25.8 percent from the floor in the first half (8 of 31). The Lady Raiders found a spark and jumped out with a 13-4 run after halftime to lead by as many as 14 with only seven minutes remaining.

UAPB (1-6) equally struggled from the field in the first half but turned the ball over 10 times in the second half, resulting in 12 points for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Raiders will take the next few days off during finals and then prepare for its final road contest of the non-conference season when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., to take on Arizona (1-6) on Dec. 15.

“I think we’ve got to continue to find ways to prepare ourselves better,” Whitaker said. We’ve got to find people to help bring more energy on the floor and on the bench.”
