Recent reports indicate that ninety percent of homes in some areas of the storm-ravaged Philippines were destroyed. One reporter on location commented that relief is coming slowly, but not enough, and not fast enough. It is for that reason that Breedlove Foods, local humanitarian non-profit organization is responding with a shipment of food later this week.
This Thursday November 21st, Breedlove will begin producing enough of its dehydrated Unflavored Vegetable Blend soup to fill a 40-foot shipping container (nearly ONE MILLION servings) to be delivered to the Philippines. This particular blend of Breedlove’s product is made up of dehydrated vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions), rice and seasonings, as well as the vitamins and minerals and macro and micronutrients needed for a balanced diet. “We have chosen to send vegetable blend because these blends meet the nutritional needs of distressed populations, says Dr. Elbia Galo, Director of Business Development. “These blends are easy to digest, which make them ideal for babies and the elderly that cannot eat hard food but need energy and nutrients. In addition, these blends strengthen the immune system due to the presence of key vitamins.”
This initial load (with others likely to follow) will ship within days of production completion to the Philippines. The exact means of transport is still undetermined, but the details are being worked out in collaboration with Breedlove’s distributing partner Evangelistic International Ministries, a non-profit that will coordinate and oversee the distribution of the life-saving food products upon arrival in port.
Breedlove continues to need and to accept your tax-deductible donations to be able to produce and ship the food for the Philippines. Gifts of any size, large and small are greatly appreciated, and will help to cover continued food production and shipping for the disaster-ridden regions in the Philippines. Donations can be brought in to the offices or mailed to 1818 N. Martin Luther King, Blvd. Lubbock, TX 79403. Or call 806-741-0404 or donate online at www.breedlove.org.
