Chess Grandmaster Attempts to Beat the Greeks

Texas Tech Head Coach and International Grandmaster Alex Onischuk, will take on up to 50 fraternity representatives simultaneously in games of chess.

WHAT:   Texas Tech University Greek Chess Challenge
 
WHEN:   2 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 21)
 
WHERE:  Between the Texas Tech Library and Student Union Building
 
EVENT:  Texas Tech Head Coach and International Grandmaster Alex Onischuk, will take on up to 50 fraternity representatives simultaneously in games of chess. Onischuk, a former U.S. chess champion and a player on the USA’s elite, four-member chess Olympiad Team, is one of the world’s leading players and is the highest-rated university chess coach in the nation.
 
In the case of bad weather, the event will be moved into the Student Union Building.
 
Texas Tech’s chess team, the Knight Raiders, have twice won the national championships and are current state and regional champions.
