LUBBOCK

-- The countdown to Christmas is starting earlier than usual this year as decorations begin to light the city.

It’s a tradition for Patrick Gakui to hang lights outside his South Lubbock home.

“I try to put them up like the first week of December,” Gakui said.

However, this year, he decorated a month early.

“Last year I went to buy the bulbs and they were out so this year I went back early so I could get all of them up,” said Gakui.  “Get a head start.”

Getting a ‘head start’ on the holiday seems to be a popular idea for Glen Seaman’s customers.  As the general manager of Tree Loving Care and Christmas Décor, he has seen a 20% increase in the amount of light calls coming in before Thanksgiving.

I'm getting anywhere from eight to ten calls a day,” said Seamn.  “This year just seems like everyone just wants them on early it's really getting kind of crazy this year.  So much stuff in the world you want to just forget about and enjoy the holiday spirit, I guess.”

Not everyone is enjoying the rush, however.  Sandra Sanchez wishes people would slow down.

I think it's kind of sad because we get away from Thanksgiving and I think everybody has a lot to be thankful for,” Sanchez said.

Tree Loving Care and Christmas Décor is taking nominations to decorate a veteran or currently deployed soldier's home for free.

If you would like to nominate someone call 806-785-8733.
