The City of Lubbock will increase the speed limit along 114th street from Indiana to Quaker. The move still needs City Council approval this week. The speed limit along that stretch of road is left over from older city ordinances during a time when portions of 114th Street did not exist. A traffic study shows drivers are already going 50 miles per hour or more. Other sections of 114th street in South Lubbock are already 50 MPH and the Director of Public Works recommends making the speed limit more consistent. Council will take up the issue on Thursday.
