2008-2009 Men's Basketball Conference Schedule

July 25, 2008

Lubbock, TX - The Big 12 Conference has released its composite league schedule for the 2008-2009 men’s basketball season and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will have thirteen games on various ESPN platforms as well as an ABC telecast.

Nearly 90 percent of the conference games this season will be televised nationally or regionally on an ESPN network, ABC, CBS or the newly branded, regionally syndicated Big 12 Network. The games are being broadcast as part of the first season of a new multi-year agreement with ESPN that runs through the 2015-2016 season. Only 13 league contests will not be televised on a national or regional basis, but many of those may be selected at a later date for local telecast packages and inclusion on ESPN Full Court - the pay subscription college basketball outer-market service.

The Red Raiders open their conference season on Saturday, January 10 when they take on Baylor in Waco. The game will be the first of six telecasts featuring Texas Tech on the Big 12 Network, formerly known as ESPN Plus.

Texas Tech will host Oklahoma on February 28 with the telecast provided by ABC. The Red Raiders will have three games on ESPN2 (at Texas, vs. OSU, and vs. Kansas) and four games on ESPNU (at A&M, at OSU, at KSU, and vs. Baylor). The Raiders will request to air the home games against Colorado and Texas A&M on their Texas Tech Television Network.

In men's basketball, the Big 12 Conference is first conference to be guaranteed three weekly telecast windows on ESPN or ESPN2, which reach 96 and 95 million homes, respectively. In addition, 95 games overall (conference and non-conference) will air annually with more than 60 contests broadcast by ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360, ABC or another national over-the-air network.

In March, the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will continue to be televised on a variety of ESPN platforms including ESPN, ESPN2 and in regional syndication on the Big 12 Network. Formerly presented as being telecast by ESPN Plus, Big 12 Network games will be seen throughout the conference's geographic footprint and beyond. Among all the televised games, many will also be available as part of ESPN Full Court.

The Big 12 has released its 2008-09 women's basketball conference composite schedule, highlighted by a change in format for the 2009 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship.

The 2009 championship will be contested Thursday-Sunday, March 12-15 at Oklahoma City's Cox Convention Center. First round action will take place on Thursday with quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. Times are yet to be determined.

Regular season conference action begins on the weekend of Jan. 10-11, 2009 and will conclude on March 7-8, 2009. Dates may be adjusted once the television schedule is available. Institutions will release their own non-conference schedules when completed.

The Big 12 is coming off a banner season which saw 11 teams compete in 2008 postseason play - a conference-record eight in the NCAA Championship and three in the WNIT. Also last season, the Big 12 became the first conference to record an 8-0 record in NCAA Championship first round games.

League teams continued to play in front of packed houses as the Big 12 captured its ninth consecutive NCAA attendance crown and drew over one-million fans for the second consecutive season and third time overall.
