LUBBOCK, TX--- Nobody likes to go to a park and have to walk around trash, that's why Keep Lubbock Beautiful is starting a program to get you involved in keeping the city clean by Adopting a Spot.
"We definitely want our citizens to feel pride and take an ownership of their community," says Raquel Padilla, coordinator for Keep Lubbock Beautiful. She says the more people get involved in cleaning up the community, the less likely they are to litter in the first place.
"I think people will see how 'hey someone's cleaning up, let me not throw out that litter that I was thinking about throwing out right now'," she says.
Youth groups, organizations, even businesses can get involved in helping pick up lubbock's litter.
That's why Keep Lubbock Beautiful wants you to adopt a spot.
It doesn't cost a thing for volunteers. The group just asks just a few times out of the year to keep the city looking good.
"We already have garbage bags and litter tools and gloves... So we're pretty ready to go, we're just needing those who are interested and passionate about our city and take an interest in helping us do that," says Padilla.
"I know that groups that have participated in different clean ups for neighborhoods have really walken away knowing they have made a difference," says Padilla.
Lubbock Adopt a Spot is set to start in May. Several groups have already started to sign up to get involved.
