LUBBOCK, TX -- Alzheimer’s Association will host the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 6 inside the South Plains Mall. Please enter at the entrance closest to Barnes and Noble. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise funds and awareness for the disease’s care, research and support.

Participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, how to get involved with the cause, research and clinical trial enrollment and support programs and services.

There will also be a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association is still looking for business sponsors as well as participants and teams.

The event has a one-mile and two-mile route and will feature live music, food and a kid’s zone with face painting, rock climbing and a bounce house. Last year the Lubbock walk had over 1,200 walkers and rose over $81,000. This year the goal is to raise $95,000 for the cause and have over 1,500 walkers.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.  As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.
