Over the past couple of days the Associated Press has released their All-State Football selections for the 2013 season. The South Plains was well represented on the 1A through 4A all state lists.
4A- A couple of Frenship Tigers made the list. Senior defensive back Will Wyatt and junior defensive back Peyton Elliott made 1st team All-State. Texas tech quarterback commit Patrick Mahomes was named the 4A offensive player of the year.
3A- Down in 3A, a couple of prolific South Plains running backs made it on to the 3A first team, in Jarek Black of Shallowater and Robert Johnson of Estatacdo. Both put up well over 2,000 yards this season, finishing up their career as two of the best runners we have seen on the South Plains in some time.
2A- Down on 2A the list is littered with South Plains players. A couple of post antelopes in Thomas Basquez, and linebacker Alejo Rodriguez made the list. Another Antelope linebacker, from Abernathy, Dru Lust made his way onto the first team. Sticking with district 2-2A Division 2 and defense, Kyle Pegram, a defensive back from Olton was named to the first team. And Muleshoe punter Austin Ross made first team, while also being named honorable mention as a receiver.
1A- Down in ClassA, running back Cory Kyle helped his Seagraves Eagles to a great season and was named 1st team All-State. While Barry Johnson and, Damion Montis, of Sudan and Monroe Luther of Springlake-Earth, all were named honorable mention. Congratulations to all of our area athletes on a great football season.
