Hinkle was a unanimous selection to the preseason team for the second-straight season, joining Texas goalkeeper Abby Smith as the only two players to receive votes from each conference head coach.
This is the second-consecutive year where Beckie and Hinkle have both appeared on the preseason team. The duo went on to earn All-Big 12 first team honors following the 2013 season after leading the Red Raiders to an 18-2-3 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
“We’re obviously thrilled for Jaelene and Janine to be recognized like this,” Tech head coach Tom Stone said. “We feel we have a talented roster and I think we’ll see several others work their way onto this team with how they play this year. It’s still great to be recognized in the preseason so we’re happy for Jaelene and Janine.”
Beckie was one of three forwards named to the preseason team after another banner season as a sophomore where she led the Red Raiders with 12 goals and chipped in four assists. She was among the conference leaders for both points and goals.
Hinkle, meanwhile, was among the top defenders in the country for a Red Raider back line that allowed only nine goals on the year. In addition to her work defensively, Hinkle also added to the Tech offense with a team-high six assists which earned her third-team NSCAA All-American honors.
Beckie and Hinkle were both honored earlier this summer as candidates for the MAC Hermann Trophy that is presented annually to the top collegiate player in the nation. Tech was one of just six programs nationally with multiple representatives on the watch list.
The Red Raiders open the 2014 season on Aug. 22 with a 7 p.m. first kick against New Mexico at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech begins the season with each of its first two matches at home as the Red Raiders will also host Oral Roberts on Aug. 24.
Tech will receive its one preseason test prior to that this Saturday with an exhibition match at No. 25 Denver. The match is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT first kick at CIBER Field in Denver.
