LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior outfielder/infielder Doug Thennis was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week today just less than 24 hours after helping lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 2-1 series win over the second-ranked Missouri Tigers.

Thennis, a senior from Cirrus Heights, Calif., picks up the second weekly honor of his career from the Big 12 as he earned that distinction back on Feb. 19 of last season.  He helped give Tech its first-ever series win over the second-ranked team in the nation as he came up big in the clutch for the Red Raiders in back-to-back games against Missouri.  On Saturday, he delivered a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the ninth and Tech went on to win that game 3-2 thanks to a Taylor Ashby RBI single.  On Sunday, with the scored tied at 11-11 and the bases loaded he blasted a walk-off grand slam home run that propelled the Red Raiders to a series-clinching 15-11 win over the Tigers.

For the weekend, he hit .500 as he was 5-for-10 at the plate with seven RBIs and drew two walks and a hit by pitch.  His stellar showing against the Tigers raised his overall batting average 22 points and is now hitting .306 on the year with three home runs and 22 RBIs.  The six RBIs that he tallied in the Sunday finale marked a new career high.

Thennis and the Red Raiders open a two-game midweek series on Tuesday evening against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
