Boots & Buckles Benefit Raises Money for Equine Therapy

Refuge Services is holding it's annual Boots & Buckles Benefit with all the proceeds going to scholarships for equine therapy.

Patti Mandrell, Director of Therapy Services at Refuge Services, said equine therapy can be a tremendous help to all type of people and she has been touched by some of the results.

"I've seen kids talk for the first time on the back of the horse that haven't been able to talk, and stand up and walk without a walker because of the therapy they are doing."

Refuge Services works with a wide spectrum of clients from special needs children to war veterans for help with speech, physical therapy, and even counseling. But it's difficult to get help to everyone that needs it.

"With insurance changing and people really struggling financially because of work situations, and military, more people coming home. You know, the need is growing and so we have people that are waiting to be able to get services."

Refuge Services is having its annual Boots and Buckles Benefit April 6th with a dinner, silent & live auction, and a performance by the band "The Lone Prairie" to raise money for scholarships.

"It's just really a fun evening. A great time to support our organization and help us. All proceeds are going to help scholarships, to help clients get services that they need."

Refuge Services has raised 120,000 dollars over the past 3 years giving them the opportunity to provide free services to veterans and their families and also reduce rates for low income clients.

"Its great work, very inspiring to see and experience and hear about and we just hope the community will stand behind us in that."
