The Holidays are over and it's time to take out that tree and Penny Morin, Lubbock Manager for Collections, said there are 4 different places to drop off your tree this month.
"We'll collect the fresh cut Christmas trees throughout the month of January. So right now its 24/7, beginning on the 14th 8:00 am to 5:30 pm through the end of the month."
Many families have switched to synthetic trees in the past few years but Morin said she's already seen a spike in the number of trees dropped off this year.
"I think last year and in previous years we had seen a decline but it seems like you have more fresh trees being sold out on lots in the city this year, more than in the past."
Morin said when you bring in your tree make sure it gets thrown out the way you bought it.
"Remove all decorations, any plastic, remove the tree stand."
Morin also said taking your tree to the recycling plant will also be easier than trying to throw it away.
"They can't haul it off to their curb because we don't have curbside pick up and if they put it in their trashcan, in their dumpster, it will probably fill up their dumpster and they won't have any room for any other trash."
None of the trees will go to a landfill, instead they will be made into mulch.
"These trees are going to be mulched. So they mulch will be available in the spring. Residents can come out to our 84th and P site and will be able to pick up mulch."
You can drop off your tree 24/7 through Monday January 13th and from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm January 14th through the 31st.
The four drop off locations are located at 208 Municipal Drive, 1631 84th Street, 7308 Milwaukee, and 4307 Adrian Street.
