LUBBOCK, TX--- School is out and the city pools are preparing to open on Tuesday, June 3rd. Workers and life guards have been getting ready so everyone can have a safe and fun summer.
"Obviously we're cleaning our pools we're doing lots of inservices," said City Aquatics Coordinator Katie Yandell. "Training our guards and what our expectations are, getting them refreshed on all their skills before the pool opens."
Its that time of year, when thousands head to the city pools to beat the heat.
"I believe last year we saw about 60 thousand people at all four of our facilities," said Yandell.
Yandell said they've been preparing to keep swimmers safe but they could use some more help.
"We have enough life guards to open our facilities which is exciting news, but we always need more life guards... cause its hot and they do get burnt out," said Yandell.
Its that heat that she says swimmers need to be prepared for as well.
"Lots of heat related illnesses especially in this dry climate, people don't realize they're getting dehydrated, drink lots and lots of water."
Yandell also wants to remind parents to monitor their kids or cehck up on them regularly if they are at the pool alone.
"This is a safe place for them to be they are monitored they have water they have facilities to use its a fun environment for them to be in," Yandell said. "We're very excited to have everybody out and looking forward to an amazing summer."
