LUBBOCK, TX -- For the second time in one day, Lubbock area emergency crews have responded to a deadly traffic accident. Wednesday morning there was a crash at 98th Street and Knoxville Avenue leaving one person dead. Wednesday afternoon at roughly 3:00 o’clock there was a crash along Interstate 27 near Regis Street.

DPS was called to investigate because it was determined to be just outside of Lubbock city limits. On Wednesday evening DPS identified the victim as Vickie Jo Lozano, 47, of Plainview.

At the scene Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Bryan Witt said, “DPS Troopers … discovered that a 2001 Jeep SUV driven by a female, was going southbound on the Interstate, went into the center median, lost control and rolled into the northbound traffic lane and into the median.”

Witt also said Lozano was ejected in the crash.  DPS later said she was not wearing a seat belt.

“Troopers will be out here for a while investigating - trying to determine why she went into the center median,” Witt said.
