Drought Forecast to Improve for Lubbock, South Plains

The most recent Seasonal Drought Outlook from NOAA provides an optimistic look at the drought in Texas.
LUBBOCK, TX -- The most recent Seasonal Drought Outlook from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Department of Commerce provides an optimistic look at the drought in Texas.

Areas west of Lubbock such as Clovis and Portales might soon be completely out of drought in the coming months.  For Lubbock and most of the South Plains, the outlook calls for drought to remain but improve.

The outlook shows it is possible that areas near Texoma might be free of drought or have reduced drought by Thanksgiving.  The outlook was released last week and is considered valid through the end of November.

However, in far south Texas the outlook shows drought persisting or intensifying.
