Get Ready for Literacy Lubbock

Jada Rankin, Marketing Coordinator, fills us in on Texas Tech University Press’s upcoming annual fundraising event, Literary Lubbock.

Literary Lubbock is Texas Tech University Press’s annual fundraising event; proceeds benefit the Grover E. Murray Studies in the American Southwest, a book series published by TTUP. This is the twelfth year of the event. They bring in several authors of recently published books (this year they have six authors) to talk about their books and their writing experiences. Guests will be served wines during a reception and during a signature meal catered by Chef L.E. Anderson of Honeychild Catering. They will also have the opportunity to visit with authors, buy the books, and get them signed after the presentations. Lubbock musician and writer Andy Wilkinson is the emcee.

The books and authors to be featured are

·         “Accused American War Criminal,” by Fiske Hanley, II

·         “The Fifth Season: A Daughter-in-Law’s Memoir of Caregiving,” by Lisa Ohlen Harris

·         “Hog’s Exit: Jerry Daniels, the Hmong, and the CIA,” by Gayle L. Morrison

·         “Remembering Bulldog Turner: Unsung Monster of the Midway,” by Michael Barr

·         “Seat of Empire: The Embattled Birth of Austin, Texas,” by Jeffrey Stuart Kerr

·         “Silent We Stood,” by Henry Chappell

The event date is Thursday, May 1, 2014, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at The Legacy Event Center. Tickets are $65 each, and the deadline for buying a ticket is April 25.
