LUBBOCK, TX -- On Wednesday afternoon a federal grand jury in Lubbock indicted Luis Alfredo Leon, 35, and Stacy Wright, 37, both of Ralls. A criminal complaint on May 30 accused Leon of purchasing major quantities of drugs from California including methamphetamine. Wright was accused of helping him by accepting the packages at her home next door and then handing them over to Leon.

The indictment is a lesser charge compared to the original criminal complaint for conspiracy and intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. The indictment is for “a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.”

The two were also indicted for the illegal use of a communications facility. The maximum penalty if convicted on the first count of the indictment is 20 years in prison. It could have been life in prison had the grand jury pursued the same allegation as the original criminal complaint.
