GEORGE WEARS HIS PINK POLO, PROUDLY.
I drive once a week, early in the morning, I drive from 8 to noon. :05
HE DRIVES THIS PINK GOLF CART -- EVEN MORE SO.
We're cruising all around the building at any time, looking for someone who needs assistance. :05
THE GOLF CART AT COVENANT IS ESSENTIALLY, A VALET SERVICE -- FOR THOSE SICK, AND SEEKING TREATMENT FOR CANCER.
It's a short drive, but I'll tell you what -- it's a long walk. :04
...they're extremely weak from chemo. :04
GEORGE, EMMETT, DON AND BURL -- ALL VOLUNTEER WEEKLY, TO DRIVE.
She wants to take a picture with all of us. "Alright." :02
THEY ESTIMATE THEY PICK UP ABOUT 50-TO-60 PEOPLE, EACH SHIFT.
BUT THEY COULD USE MORE HELP BEHIND THE WHEEL.
There's only about 5 or 6 of us here right now. And we could certainly double that number. :05
THE GOLF CART SERVICE RUNS ALL DAY, EVERY DAY -- *ESPECIALLY, WHEN THE WEATHER'S BAD.
AND THE RESPONSE, THEY SAY -- IS SIMPLY GRATEFUL.
So many people get out of it, and say "bless you," "bless you for this." They can't believe that we're doing this on our own, as volunteers... but it makes you feel good. :12
GEORGE IS A 3-TIME CANCER SURVIVOR HIMSELF...
AND HE SAYS HE USES THE TRAVEL TIME TO TELL OTHERS -- THEY CAN DO IT TOO.
They start feeling better, after they get back to the car. :02
IT MAY SEEM LIKE A SMALL GESTURE.
BUT WITH PLENTY OF PINK...
We get a lot of comments on the pink golf cart. Everybody would love to have it. :04
AND LOTS OF LAUGHTER FROM THESE GUYS...
"That's why we got peach." (laughs) :03
THE TRIP TO TREATMENT AT COVENANT, CAN BE MEDICINE IN ITSELF.
